International Yoga Day 2024: PM Modi to Lead Celebrations in Srinagar

On June 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate International Yoga Day on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, with 3,000-4,000 attendees expected at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre. The theme this year, 'Yoga for Self and Society,' emphasizes yoga's role in individual and societal well-being.

Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav announced that Modi has written to village leaders to promote yoga in rural areas. The Srinagar administration, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, is preparing for the event, which marks Modi's first visit to Jammu and Kashmir in his third term and his second visit to Srinagar this year.

The event will feature party workers, students, officers, and sports personalities, with tight security measures, including a ban on drones. The United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014, following Modi's suggestion. Since 2015, Modi has led celebrations at various iconic locations, including the United Nations Headquarters in New York last year.
